Diane confronted her in the hallway after the hearing. "Eighteen months? He’ll lose his license. His reputation. His life. For one footnote."
It was a lie she told herself daily.
She recommended eighteen months.
"And what did he say?" Alicia asked.
That night, Alicia went home to the same apartment she’d had since leaving Peter. No penthouses. No pretensions. She poured a glass of red wine and called the one person she knew would be honest with her.
