1. Overview & Historical Context (2013-2014) Released in late 2013, Avast Internet Security 2014 was a paid suite designed to compete with Norton, Kaspersky, and Bitdefender. At the time, Windows 8.1 was new, and XP was still in use. Avast 2014 was famous for its "Do Not Disturb Mode" and a completely overhauled user interface (the "Modern UI" with a tile-based layout).
