You leave the Glimmerwood with your prize… or your burden. And you can’t shake the feeling that the chest knew what you would choose before you did. If you’d like, I can expand this into a full quest with NPCs, combat, and romance beats — just let me know!
“A memory,” you try. The chest rattles. A soft glow spills out — not gold, but a crystal vial of silvery liquid ( Potion of Recollection : restores a small amount of Willpower and reveals one hidden location on the world map). coc2 chest riddle
Here’s a short, self-contained story based on a in the style of Corruption of Champions II (CoC2). It’s designed to feel like an in-game encounter — complete with a riddle, choices, and consequences. The Rusted Chest in the Glimmerwood You’re deep in the Glimmerwood , following a trail of faded crimson petals. The air smells of wet moss and old magic. Beneath a gnarled elder oak — its bark scarred by lightning — you spot it: a chest of blackened iron , wrapped in thorny vines. No lock, no keyhole. Just a brass plate engraved with words that flicker faintly in the twilight. You leave the Glimmerwood with your prize… or your burden
(requires Strength 4+ or a crowbar) You ignore the riddle and pry the lid. The vines thrash, but you wrestle them down. Inside: 300 gold coins and a cursed iron ring (-1 to Magic Power until removed by a priestess in the Harvest Valley). Aftermath No matter your choice, the oak’s lightning scars glow once — then go dark. The crimson petals on the ground turn white. Somewhere in the distance, a harp plays a single, mournful chord. “A memory,” you try
As you step closer, a whisper slithers from the chest — not a voice, but an echo of your own thoughts: “I have no voice, but I tell all truths. I have no legs, but I travel with youth. I have no hunger, but I waste away — Speak my name, or here you’ll stay.” The vines tighten around your ankles. Not painfully… yet. 1. Guess “A Book” You whisper, “A book.” The vines loosen. The chest creaks open with a sigh like turning pages. Inside: a Tome of Forgotten Verses (grants +2 Intelligence, unlocks a short side quest to find a lost poet’s ghost).
Hesitant, you say, “A rumor?” The vines snap back. The chest laughs — a dry, papery sound. Inside: nothing but a withered rose and a note: “Some truths fade faster than lies.” (The rose can be traded to a fae in the Old Forest for a charm of minor luck.)
