One moment, I was crossing the sand dunes east of the Baja Caldera, tires kicking up golden arcs, the radio blasting some upbeat electronic track. The next — silence. Just the engine. That’s all I am now, in the eyes of the server. A bundle of hex values: car colors, wheel alignments, three hundred and twelve event wins, a house on the coast, and one photograph of a sunset that doesn't exist in real life. My save file is 48
