Jay, watching over Sam’s shoulder, sees the mother ghost blink. Then she smiles. Then she reaches out of the monitor —not physically, but her hand casts a shadow across the library floor, 15 feet long.

That’s when things go wrong.

The classic theme plays, but the visuals are warped. The family photos on the mantel flicker with faces that aren’t the Arondekars. The chandelier’s crystals cast not rainbows, but shadows in the shape of human figures. The title card appears: GHOSTS . Then, the subtitle fades in: SEASON 4 – THE RESOLUTION .

The documentary director, (sharp, cynical, carrying a spectral camera that records in raw, uncompressed light), sets up her equipment. She’s a non-believer. "Ghosts are just pattern recognition in low-resolution data," she tells Sam. "But 4K? 4K eliminates the shadows where people imagine things."
