Inside that Z: drive were his father’s backups: scanned photos, early digital paintings, a folder named “For Daniel” that he was never allowed to open. The rain stops

Daniel closes his laptop. The rain returns. And somewhere, in a server that no longer exists, a ten-year-old boy watches his father click Finish and smiles.
He right-clicks This PC . He selects Show more options —a small rebellion against the new context menu, a muscle memory from Windows 10, from Windows 7, from that XP machine in 2004. The old menu appears. And there it is, third from the bottom: Map network drive .
