In Scotland, 1746, Jamie awakens in a cave, his leg savagely infected. A gruff, hunted man named Hugh MacKenzie (the "Old Fox" and Jamie’s great-uncle) tends to him. Hugh brings news: the Duke of Cumberland is offering a pardon to any Jacobite who surrenders. Jamie refuses.
