Aishwarya Rai, as the revolutionary's love interest, brought grace to a role that was historically fictional but visually compelling. Her presence added a commercial sheen that the producers desperately wanted. The biggest hurdle Shaheed couldn't clear was the shadow of the 1965 classic.
