The final scene is not in the basement. It’s at the quarry, sunrise. Eli is in the water up to his chest. Maya is on the rocks, reading Leo’s letter aloud—the parts about seashells and bad coffee and the therapist who finally used the word “depression” without flinching.

Silence. Then, softer:

On the drive back, they tap the dashboard. Two taps. Two taps back. the teenager next door vol. 4

Maya: “You don’t have to swim. You just have to show up. And so do I.” The final scene is not in the basement

Eli stares at it like it’s written in fire. softer: On the drive back

Eli: “Cold. Scary. Kind of amazing.”
