Priya sighed gently. “I need to verify you. Answer three questions: last transaction amount, your YES Bank credit card’s last four digits, and the city where you opened the account.”
“Sir, a transaction of ₹49,999 was attempted an hour ago from a merchant in Colombia. Our system flagged it.”
Rohan closed his eyes. Then he remembered: the branch inside the nearby hypermarket mall stayed open until 10 PM on weekends. He grabbed his keys, jacket half-on, and ran.
“Correct,” Priya said. “I’m marking the fraudulent attempt as disputed. Your new card will arrive in 5 days. For immediate unblock of this card—I can’t. Security protocol.”
Panic prickled his neck. He needed that card—his laptop was in for repair, and he’d planned to buy a new one tomorrow. Plus, his Netflix payment was due. Pathetic, he knew, but the small stuff added up.
“Unblock request?” Sharma wiped his hands. “Haven’t done one of these in months.” He pulled out a dusty green form. “Sign here, here, and initial next to ‘I confirm no genuine unauthorized transaction occurred.’”
Sharma typed. Clicked. Pressed a button that said “Cardholder Verified – Lift Freeze.” Then he looked up. “Try your card now.”
